Code Name Helene

Code Name Hélène: A Novel by Ariel Lawhon was one of my highly anticipated books of 2020. This book has been receiving great reviews everywhere and it did not disappoint. This WWII historical fiction book has dual timelines to tell of a brave woman and her fight against the Germans.  This fiction book is based on the life of a real woman named Nancy Wake.  I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend reading it.

I also enjoyed her previous book:

The Traitor’s Pawn

The Traitor’s Pawn by Lisa Harris is a new Christian fiction book. I enjoyed this fast paced FBI drama. The story kept my attention the whole time and it was a great story to escape into. It also involved some romance as two old friends work together on a FBI investigation. The story starts out with a kidnapping and dives right into a chase. An  investigation begins to uncover who is behind it. I would recommend this book to those that enjoy reading Christian fiction. Thanks to Revell for this review copy.

Oona Out Of Order

Oona Out of Order: A Novel by Margarita Montimore is a new fiction book that is all over Instagram. I almost stopped reading this book because I was having trouble with the time jumping and didn’t really care for the characters. I kept reading and ended up enjoying the story of Oona and her life. It was a unique book and was interesting to read how strange her life was by living it out of chronological order.

Secrets Of The Happy Soul

Secrets of the Happy Soul: Experience the Deep Delight You Were Made For by Katie Orr is a new Christian non-fiction book. I struggled with this book and it may just be the circumstances we are in during quarantine because it has also received a lot of great reviews. All books are not for all people and this one was just not for me. The book was well written, but I struggled with what the main point was and it did not offer a lot of practical advice.  Some of the chapters offer questions for further study. There is a lot of Scripture used in this book. Thanks to Bethany House Publishers for this review copy.

About the Author:
Katie Orr is passionate about helping women enjoy God daily. As a conference speaker, prolific author, and online Bible coach, she provides biblical teaching and relevant resources to help women jump-start their journey toward walking with Jesus. Katie and her pastor-husband have three children and serve together in the local church.

Admission by Julie Buxbaum is a YA book that is now being released in December 2020. Thanks to Netgalley for an early review copy. I have a been a fan of Julie Buxbaum’s since I read  What To Say Next a few years ago. I then read all of her other books. In this newest book, it is a fictional book based on the college admission scandal. It is a timely read and took the perspective of the high school girl that was applying for college when her parents became involved in the admission scandal. Also, who can resist this cover?
